Leeds Other Stories: Share Your History, Shape Stories!

Leeds Other Stories is a vibrant community theatre project in Leeds City Library by Fall Into Place Theatre. It will champion stories of people often left out, such as unpaid caregivers, refugees or asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ people.

The show takes inspiration from the Leeds Other Paper: an alternative Leeds newspaper that ran from 1974-1994. Leeds City Library hosts one of the only complete collections, and we’re responding by creating a new living archive performance of Leeds Other Stories today.

Created by a community cast, the performance will lead audiences through the historic library building to hear stories that too often go unheard. The performances will take place during library opening hours in the last two weeks of November. Watch this space for tickets.

Leeds-based artist Natalie Quatermass will direct the show, with creative production by Si Brewis.

It is rooted in community research that Fall Into Place carried out earlier this year with unpaid caregivers, refugees and asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ people, in collaboration with our partners at Solace, Carers Leeds, MESMAC, and the West Yorkshire Archive Service. The project is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
